Another White Pope
I'm disappointed that the Church chose a white pope again. I really thought there was a good chance at those rich, old, virgin, white guys deciding that it was time to make a strong anti-racism statement.
Sigh. Maybe this particular dude they chose really was the best choice for the job.

My coworkers seem to think he's an "interim" Pope.
What gives? I thought the Korean woman had it all wrapped up?!
I bet she takes the Church to court.... oh wait
Definitely an "interim" guy, at least to the extent that he's fairly old (78) and unlikely to be around for too long.
I suspect that the "princes" understood quite well that JP2 would be an impossible act to follow, and chose to go with somebody who wouldn't even try. Expect this pope to focus on administration and cleaning up many of the Vatican's internal messes. Among other things I would not be surprised if he tried to make the Vatican administration look much more like the world, and less like Italy.
Whoever follows him will be far enough removed from JP2's shadow that he'll be able to make the Church his own. No pope could possibly do that right now, and perhaps it's wise that the cardinals did not choose to place one in the inenviable position of having to try.
