I mean, if Budweiser were any good to begin with, would there even be a need for Bud Select? No!
Can you imagine "Guinness Select"? Bass Select? No, of course not. Because those beers are already good!

If you value quality over quantity, then this is what you're looking for.
And they're from Delaware, no less!
Look harder! There are great beers all around, no matter what you like. Harpoon, Magic Hat in new england .. another poster mentioned Dogfish Head, which can be very good. Rogue Ales... Sierra Nevada... Anchor... Brooklyn Brewery.
The problem is, the single greatest factor in the quality of most beer is freshness and quality of transportation/storage. That's why brew pubs that make their own are usually so good.
So if you don't like the #1 selling beers in THE WORLD what exactly do you drink? I am guessing a self proclaimed sophisticated New York guy like yourself likes a Martini. Something cute.
Maybe your boyfriend likes beer?
