Enjoy the Moment!

Anger? You tell me. All I know is that my recent posts about having some FUN in my life has elicited all kinds of passionate feedback. I have long time readers/emailers telling me that "using a Cody-line, they're done" with me. I know I've upset some physical-world because of the storytelling of my escapades in Utah below.

I don't get it.

Am I supposed to be defending my actions here?

Somebody remind me again what it is I'm defending. Working, networking, learning? (I have a column on TheStreet.com about what I got out of Sundance work-wise, btw.) Having some fun in Utah? Skiing for two days? Partying/networking with people until 5am?

And now I'm at the Grammy's. And I really am pinching myself, having such a great time. I mean, I pulled into the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills last night, and I'm just so stuck in the moment. Isn't this why we work so hard? Isn't this why we take the risks and perservere through horrible times? Isn't this why I haven't missed a day that the market's been open in more than three years?

Isn't this a moment I SHOULD BE ENJOYING?!

Well, dammit, I am enjoying it (irony noted). This is a dream, people, and if you want to stick around and have some fun with me while I live this phase out, great. If you only want to read my deepest, darkest depressions, heartbreaks, and painful phases --- well, that's just not gonna happen right now. Because I know those times will come again, and perhaps any minute. And when they do, I'll bleed on these pages again.

In the meantime, I'm embracing that ol' saw of enjoying while I can. Smelling some roses. Literally, because they put rose pedals in my room here. Hoohah, indeed.

Well stated Cody. It's sad that you have to defend your success. Bitter people tend to attempt to marginalize the more successful and happy people with pettiness.

Don't let them drag you down.

You know, Cody, every time I heard you say that you haven't taken a day off in years, I always wanted to say, "Take a week off...take two weeks off!!"

Really, do we live to work, or do we work to live? You and I both know that our profession is extremely demanding, especially if you go the extra mile as you do to better yourself. A little self-indulgence is not only acceptable, it's a damn good idea!

And dang, if you're single you'd better be doing all this stuff now. Having kids, uh, changes things a bit. (Understatement of the year!)

So count me as officially jealous, but happy that I can live vicariously though you for a bit. I loved your previous post about Sundance and skiing. One day I'll tell you about the time I almost killed myself at Jackson Hole.

One last question, can you take me with you next year? Please? LOL!

Like the kids dying in Iraq right now, huh? God, your generation sucks.

Don't let the fools get you down.

I'll be the first to admit that you wouldn't catch me dead at the events you've been to in the past couple of weeks. Hell, I was just a few miles away from you when you were at Sundance and didn't bother heading over that way!

But hey, that's what life's about. I don't expect anybody else to enjoy my idea of fun, and I sure don't criticize anybody else for having fun their own way. The only ones who I think need some criticism are those who refuse to have fun and then put down those who do.

I enjoy my life. I lot of people wouldn't. But I'm not living for them, and neither should you.

some peoples lives suck so much that they have to put down others to make themselves look/feel better. you go to the grammys and you're a star fucker.....they go and 'it's a dream come true'. you buy a tag heuer and it's a waste of money for a watch......they buy a watch and 'they aways wanted to blow their bonus on a rolex just once'.

my flip it story.....in '83 i drove a clapped out fiat x/19 from nj to the detroit grand prix. i was an F1 geek who was a member of an F1 club who's founders were friends of the only american F1 photographer who asked me to go the renaissance center one night to possibly meet gordon murrey the designer of the brabham F1 cars, who did meet us and in tow was his friend......george harrison. yes, THAT george harrison. all the wannabe's and groupies looking a 22 yo kid having a beer with george harrison!!

one simple networking connection that was supposed to be a few beers turned into meeting george harrison. it took a long time before i fully realized the power of networking.

and i don't even like the beatles
