ToP: There's Only So Much Oil in the Ground
So I'm trying out some "new" music this morning, jamming to an album I downloaded off iTunes a couple weeks ago. I'm half-listening to the lyrics of this funky song when I realize it's all about the peak oil theory of all things. No joke -- the song's called "There's Only So Much Oil in the Ground". Here are the complete lyrics:
There's only so much oil in the ground
Sooner or later there won't be much around
Tell that to your kids while you driving downtown
That there's only so much oil on the ground
Can't cut loose without that juice
Can't cut loose without that juice
If we keep on like we doing things for sure
Will not be cool - It's a fact
We just ai't got suffiecient fuel
There's only so much oil in the ground
Sooner or later there won't be none around
Alternate sources of power must be found
Cause there's only so much oil in the ground
There's only so much oil in the earth
It's a fact of life - for what it's worth
Something every little boy and girl should know since birth
That there's only so much oil in the ground
There's no excuse for our abuse
No excuse for our abuse
We just assume that we will not
Exceed the oil supply
But soon enough the world will watch the wells run dry.
Oh, what is that song from? Tower of Power, 1975.
Yes, thirty one years ago.
Surely those peak oil theorists and secular growth of oil stories have got it right this decade around though!
There's only so much oil in the ground

or, what is hipp! hipp is directional drilling from onshore in santa barbara county (don't tell). i heard t of p play these tunes at gainey winery (santa barbara)some years ago as the small crowd pondered the cost of the gasoline they crave and the fact that santa barbara county will only let oil products be transported intra county by truck.....oh, and don't drill in our back yard where here is a zillion bbls of crude. ok, so i was in the earl biz...don't tell anyone around here!!
Seems like your oil analyst agrees with ToP. What do they got that you don't? Rhythm? Or maybe, your still a young man....
Santa Barbara had it right years ago with GOO..Get Oil Out! Always preferred WAR to ToP, so Why Can't We Be Friends?
Funny how we have all these geopolitical "catalysts" currently out there for higher and higher oil prices, but now that they are coming to fruition, oil is getting sold off. A little toppy-action? We'll see I guess. Nevertheless, incredible connection with those lyrics....
TOP is always way beyond their time... like all great musicians.
Keep up the good work, Cody. I always enjoy your posts AND your taste in music!
Also, congrats on your "cash and patience" call this summer...
keep it gay, Cody. :)
